Question by understanding12 : Why does not the government tax pollution instead of income ?
The economic recession has brought many bailout ideas, and ultimately one of the many ideas what ?successful?. So, instead of steadily increasing income taxes, why not create a pollution tax? I mean, if the people are having a problem with paying mortgages, why increase income taxes and lower their actual income? The pollution tax is being enacted in England. Several corporations are being taxed create for the amount of pollution their factories. This will not only help with the recession it will also help reduce pollution and force them to look for alternative methods of fuel. Best answer:

They do. Emitter in most states are required to pay fees for their emissions. See Title I of the Clean Air Act. So, see Title V.
