Signs Your Child May Need to See the Eye Doctor | New Health and ...

New Health And Fitness.Org - Health Information You Can Use

When raising your children, there are many things that you must pay attention to, one of them being their eyesight. Although most parents would rather not have their kids wear glasses, it is a reality for many families and at then end of the day, it is better to take care of their vision sooner than later. If your child is straining to see objects close up or far away it can hinder his abilities in school, sports or in social activities. In many instances, younger children won?t be able to relay the information that they are having trouble seeing, so it is the parent?s job to watch out for certain telltale signs. There?s no real guidebook to go by to tell if your child needs eyeglasses, but some actions usually indicate that there is a problem with vision.

One sign that your child may need to see the eye doctor about glasses is holding books or other objects closer to their face than normal. If their vision is blurred at a normal distance, they will likely try to move the object closer to see it clearly. You may also notice a lot of squinting, tilting the head to one side, and sitting closer to the television screen than usual.

When a trip to the eye doctor is needed, you may also notice a lot of eye rubbing due to pain or straining of the eyes. These signs don?t automatically indicate a need for glasses, but they are a good sign that you should have things checked out. If your child is in school, you may notice problems with schoolwork or the teacher may report that he is having trouble reading the blackboard. Sometimes, kids don?t want eyeglasses and won?t say anything if they have problems reading the board. Of course, this can lead to a dip in grades because they can?t see what they?re supposed to be learning.

If your child is old enough to communicate what is happening, ask a lot of questions to get a full understanding of the situation. Once it?s been determined that he?s having some trouble, make an appointment with the eye doctor to find out precisely what the problem is. After the exam, you?ll have a prescription for corrective eyeglasses and you can go from there. Many different places sell discount glasses and cheap eyeglasses if you don?t have a lot of room in the budget for glasses. Discount glasses don?t necessarily have to be poor quality glasses, and if you ask around and look around you can usually find a pair that works for your budget and are of good quality.

Whether you decide on cheap glasses, discount glasses or brand name glasses, make sure to choose frames that will stand up to the lifestyle of your child. Most kids are a lot rougher on glasses than adults, and the last thing you want is to spend money on frames or lenses that are going to be broken repeatedly. Talk it over with the optician so you can be sure that you?re getting the right pair of glasses for your child and for his lifestyle.

Find the right eyeglasses and vision care products from a variety of brands in a range of styles and colors at discount prices.

Carnival of Personal Finance: The Little Prince's Journey to ...

journey to financial enlightenment2 Carnival of Personal Finance #350: The Little Princes Journey to Financial Enlightenment

Once upon a?time, in a far away kingdom, lived a Little Prince and his Wise Wizard. The King, who is very old, wanted to make sure his Little Prince is ready to take over the mantle of ruling the kingdom before he puts?the Little Prince?into the will [Sustainable Personal Finance]?He is rightfully concerned about the generational differences when it comes to debt [Yes I Am Cheap], and so he asked the Wise?Wizard to help the Little Prince get to the Land of Financial Enlightenment. ?I don?t want him to grow up all silly nilly about money! What if he marries a princess who buys purses?all the time?[Diva in Debt] and go broke?! I need him to be a good leader and understand investments [Grow Money]??said the King.??HMPH. That?s playing into gender stereotypes [My Broken Coin],? the Wise Wizard said, ?but I will help the Little Prince reach his destination and understand financial matters in relationships [Busy Executive Money Blog].?

And so the Wise Wizard and the Little Prince set out on their journey. Along the way, the Wise Wizard tried to impart words of, well, wisdom to the Little Prince.

?To reach your Findependence Day [Boomer & Echo], you must overcome obstacles and learn to figure out for yourself what truly matters in life,? the Wise Wizard said.??But I already know the 10 Commandments to Growing Wealth [Wealth and Wise],? said the Little Prince, ?This will be an easy journey.?

?It is not enough to simply know, you must also act,? The Wise Wizard explained, ?let me tell you about all the obstacles you will encounter.?

?Having pride in yourself and work is a good thing, but never be too proud to shop at discount stores [See Debt Run]. Along the way to Land of Financial Enlightenment, you might see alluring images of fast cars and pretty women [Saving Advice], but driving an uncool car is actually awesome [Graduating with Surplus]. If you stick to the 20% rule [Your Life, Their Life], you?can help you achieve your goals more quickly.?

?But I KNOW all these obstacles already,? the Little Prince said, for he was a very smart Little Prince. ?I?ve read about them in books and on blogs. I?m a great student [Humble Savers].? The Wise?Wizard shook his head. You can?t just understand the numbers (although that is very important) ? you have to modify your behavior [Consumerism Commentary] to make lasting change. Sometimes, you have to experience things ? losing money in the stock market [Million Ways to Save], fall victim to price anchoring? [Smart on Money], co-signing a loan [Christian Debt Coach], and?marrying for money [Nicole & Maggie] before you learn what works and what doesn?t.?

?Getting to Financial Enlightenment doesn?t sound much fun,? said the Little Prince, ?I like to look good and enjoy my life.???You can!,? insists the Wise Wizard, ?you can?make fashion affordable [Everything Finance], you will live longer! [Squirrelers], and if you make good choices, you will be able to?become a?stay at?home dad [Tie the Money Knot] if you wish.? The Little Prince wrinkled his nose. ?But I killed my last three goldfishes,? he said. ?Er, well, don?t quit your day job yet [My Money Design]!? sighed the Wise Wizard.

As the two walked and walked and walked along the road to Financial Enlightenment, they talked and talked and talked.

The Little Prince asked, ?the Land of Financial Enlightenment is when I finally get RICH, right?? The Wise?Wizard chuckled. ?Money isn?t the only measure of success [Barbara Friedberg Personal Finance], in fact, money is just a tool. Once you build your foundations [Free Money Finance], you will be able to use money to do what you really want to do in life ? whether that?s to spend more time with your future Princess, create more buildings for the royal grounds, or contribute to charity [Mrs. Nespy's World]. There are tools to help you do this: automating bill payments [Budgeting in the Fun Stuff], taking advantage of payroll tax cuts [Novel Investor], selecting a good IRA?company?[Qwoter], and taking advantage of no?balance transfer fee credit cards [Wallet Blog].?

Finally, after many days of study, the Little Prince was ready for his important interview?[Adjunctorium] with the King. The King quizzed him on all he has learned, from tax reporting forms[Nerd's Eye View], to renters and laundry fees [Start Talking Cents], to tips for easier budgeting[Money Talks Coaching], to using Google Docs spreadsheet for investing?[My Journey to Millions], to?making extra money?[Bible Money Matters], to chargeback?policy report [CardHub]. The King asked about the general economy?[Narrow Bridge Finance], the local economy[Debt Black Hole], evaluating intangibles [Pinch That Penny], and when DIY works and when?DIY doesn?t?[DollarVersity].

The Little Prince was able to answer the King?s questions flawlessly. He gave the King?the low down on RESP plans [Young & Thrifty], discussed the rules of career reinvention [Afford Anything], explained the virtues of saving paper [Funny About Money],?talked about the benefits of getting a 60 month auto loan [Familyancial Wealth,?listed?ways to save at the gas pump[Personal Finance Success], ran over reasons why a home inspector [Happy Homeowner] is necessary, and even explained?how to find jobs using social media [One Cent At A Time]. The King knew nothing about social media or SEO keywords [Mike & Molly's House], so he was very impressed indeed!

?You seemed to have learned a lot,? said the King, ?I want to reward your?efforts [Money Cactus].? Then the King, confident that the Little Prince can handle his finances, gifted him real estate [Investor Junkie], bonds [Dividend Growth Stocks], bond funds [Control Your Cash], and even shares of Ford stock [Dividend Monk]!

?But wait!? The Little Prince interrupted, ?I haven?t told you what I REALLY learned yet.? ?You haven?t?? The King was confused. ?But you talked to me about knowing when to adjust your budget [Evolving Personal Finance], learning a foreign language?[Darwin's Money], evaluating Betterment?[Dough Roller]. You showed me how you improve your credit score [Financial Highway],?save [PT Money], buy travel insurance?[One Frugal Girl], and?use a rewards credit card [Rewards Cards USA]. You even have the discipline to hide money ? from yourself [Frugal Cool]. It sounds to me that you have achieved Financial Enlightenment.?

?All that is important,? the Little Prince admitted, ?I did learn about tax forms?[Free From Broke], Social Security [My Dollar Plan],?Bank of America Add It Up Rewards [Financial Product Reviews], and dividend investing?[Dividend Growth Investor], I learned about what happens in Chapter 11?[Prairie Eco Thrifter], when to cancel my credit card [Help Me Travel Cheap],?and how to?save for the holidays [Net Worth Journey]. I even learned about unconventional investment moves [Invest It Wisely]. But I don?t want to get tunnel?vision when it comes to my finances?[Money Beagle]. Because what the Wise Wizard taught me was that financial enlightenment is about making decisions so you can live the best life you can, and have your spending and finances reflect your priorities.?

The King smiled! The Little Prince has passed his test. He knows that the Little Prince has a bright financial future [Watson Inc], and for that he is happy. The Wise Wizard?is also happy. In fact, he?thought,??Maybe I should start?my own financial firm [Good Financial Cents]!?

(AP) ? The Obama administration said Monday it has no control over how the New York Police Department spends millions of dollars in White House grants that helped pay for NYPD programs that put entire American Muslim neighborhoods under surveillance. In New York, the police commissioner said he wouldn't apologize.

The White House has no opinion about how the grant money was spent, spokesman Jay Carney said. The Associated Press reported Monday that the White House money has paid for the cars that plainclothes NYPD officers used to conduct surveillance on Muslim neighborhoods and paid for computers that stored even innocuous information about Muslim college students, mosque sermons and social events.

The money is part of a little-known grant intended to help law enforcement fight drug crimes. Since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the Bush and Obama administrations have provided $135 million to the New York and New Jersey region through the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program, known as HIDTA. It's unclear exactly how much was spent on surveillance of Muslims because the HIDTA program has little oversight.

The AP confirmed the use of White House money through secret police documents and interviews with current and former city and federal officials. The AP also obtained electronic documents with digital signatures indicating they were created and saved on HIDTA computers. The HIDTA grant program is overseen by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Carney said the White House drug policy office has no authority to direct, manage or supervise any law enforcement operations, including the NYPD's surveillance of Muslims.

"This is not an administration program or a White House program," Carney said. "This is the New York Police Department."

The disclosure that the White House is at least partially paying for the NYPD's surveillance of Muslim neighborhoods complicates its efforts to stay out of the fray over the controversial counterterrorism programs. Carney described the Office of National Drug Control Policy as a policy office, but he did not say whether the White House sees the NYPD's programs as good policy.

In New York, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly was again unapologetic. Kelly said that some local politicians who questioned the NYPD's methods were pandering to voters in upcoming elections, and said that others ? including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez and Newark Mayor Cory Booker ? were wrong to question the department.

"Not everybody is going to be happy with everything the police department does, that's the nature of our business," Kelly said. "But our primary mission, our primary goal is to keep this city safe, to save lives. That's what we're engaged in doing."

The Obama administration has pointedly refused to endorse or repudiate the NYPD programs it helps pay for. It remains unclear whether the White House knew how the NYPD was spending the grant money until the AP asked the White House about it last week.

"We make very clear that we consider Muslim Americans partners in the effort to combat, you know, radical extremism," Carney said Monday. "I think we've made that clear again and again. And that continues to be our position."

John Brennan, Obama's top counterterrorism adviser, last year called the NYPD's efforts "heroic" but would not elaborate. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, whose department also gives grant money to the NYPD and is one of the lead federal agencies helping police build relationships with Muslims, has refused in recent months to discuss the police tactics. Tom Perez, the Justice Department's top civil rights lawyer, has repeatedly refused to answer questions about the NYPD.

New York's attorney general, Eric Schneiderman, does not have the authority to investigate the NYPD, Schneiderman's spokesman said. The New York City council has also said it neither has the oversight authority nor expertise to investigate NYPD's counterterrorism programs.

The American Civil Liberties Union and the New York Civil Liberties Union on Monday called for a federal investigation into the White House funds paying for some of the NYPD's counterterrorism activities. So far, the federal government has not decided to investigate the NYPD, despite multiple requests to do so.

Kelly acknowledged Monday that the department uses HIDTA money but would not say how it spends the money.

The White House HIDTA grant program was established at the height of the drug war to help police fight drug gangs and unravel supply routes. It has provided about $2.3 billion to local authorities in the past decade.

After the terror attacks, law enforcement was allowed to use some of that money to fight terrorism. It's unclear how much HIDTA money has been used to pay for the intelligence division, in part because NYPD intelligence operations receive scant oversight in New York.

Congress, which approves the money for the program, is not provided with a detailed breakdown of activities. None of the NYPD's clandestine programs is cited in the New York-New Jersey region's annual reports to Congress between 2006 and 2010. And Congress has not requested that its investigative arm, the Government Accountability Office, look into the HIDTA grant program since 2005.

Most of the money from the White House grants in New York and New Jersey has been spent fighting drugs, said Chauncey Parker, director of the program there. He said less than $1.3 million was spent on vehicles used by the NYPD intelligence unit.

"Those cars are used to collect and analyze counterterrorism information with the goal of preventing a terrorist attack in New York City or anywhere else," Parker said. "If it's been used for specific counterterrorism effort, then it's been used to pay for those cars."

Former police officials told the AP those vehicles have been used to photograph mosques and record the license plates of worshippers.

In addition to paying for the cars, the White House money pays for part of the office space the intelligence division shares with other agencies in Manhattan.

When police compiled lists of Muslims who took new, Americanized names, they kept those records on HIDTA computer servers. That was ongoing as recently as October, city officials said.

Many NYPD intelligence officers, including those that conducted surveillance of Muslim neighborhoods, had HIDTA email addresses. Briefing documents for Kelly, the police commissioner, were compiled on HIDTA computers. Those documents described what police informants were hearing inside mosques and which academic conferences Muslim scholars attended.

When police wanted to pay a confidential informant, they were told to sign onto the HIDTA website to file the paperwork, according to a 2007 internal document obtained by the AP.

Parker said the White House grant money was never used to pay any of the NYPD intelligence division's confidential informants. The HIDTA computer systems, he said, are platforms that allow different law enforcement agencies to share information and work.

"I am shocked to hear that federal dollars may have helped finance the NYPD's misguided efforts to spy on Muslims in America," said Rep. Judy Chu, D-Calif., one of 34 members of Congress who have asked the Justice Department and House Judiciary Committee to investigate the NYPD.

Nermeen Arastu, an attorney with the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund, said the White House needs to put its money where its mouth is. She said if the White House promotes outreach to Muslims inside the U.S. and around the world, "why fund a program that basically destroys trust?"

Arastu's organization has filed freedom of information requests at the local and federal level to see how the NYPD's counterterrorism programs are being funded.

The connection between NYPD and the White House anti-drug grant program surfaced years ago, during a long-running civil rights lawsuit against police. Civil rights attorneys asked in court about a "demonstration debriefing form" that police used whenever they arrested people for civil disobedience. The form carried the seal of both the NYPD Intelligence Division and HIDTA.

A city lawyer downplayed any connection. She said the NYPD and HIDTA not only shared office space, they also shared office supplies like paper. The NYPD form with the seal of a White House anti-drug program was "a recycled piece of paper that got picked up and modified," attorney Gail Donoghue told a federal judge in 2003.

The issue died in court and was never pursued further.

Last week, the controversy over NYPD's programs drew one former Obama administration official into the discussion.

After the AP revealed an extensive program to monitor Muslims in Newark, N.J., police there denied knowing anything about it. The Newark police director at the time, Garry McCarthy, has since moved on to lead Chicago's police department where President Barack Obama's first chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, is now the mayor.

"We don't do that in Chicago and we're not going to do that," Emanuel said last week.

Christie, the New Jersey governor, said the NYPD surveillance in his state was "disturbing" and has asked the attorney general to investigate. Christie was New Jersey's top federal prosecutor and sat on the HIDTA executive board during 2006 and 2007 when the NYPD was conducting surveillance in New Jersey cities. Christie said he didn't know that, in 2007, the NYPD catalogued every mosque and Muslim business in Newark, the state's largest city.

"I kind of think I would have remembered that," he said on Fox Business Network last week.

One Thing That's NOT Causing Oil Prices To Surge

Earlier we discussed some of the factors behind the recent surge in oil and gasoline prices.

One thing that's worth emphasizing: The Fed's/cheap money is NOT a compelling culprit.

This is not a minor point, since the country's largest business publication, WSJ, recently editorialized on the subject, saying that it was the Fed's fault.

In a post up this morning, economists James Hamiltion takes issue with WSJ noting how little other commodities have moved at the same time as oil.

Below I've graphed the price of oil along with 9 other commodities that I could find quickly on Webstract. Oil increased 22% in the last 3 months of 2011; the next biggest gainer over this period was copper, which was up less than 4%, and most were actually down over those 3 months. Since the start of this year, the metals have climbed, though their gain is still typically less than half that of oil. Most agricultural commodities are still below their levels of the start of October.

He also points out this 1-year chart of other various metals:

chart

Again, oil is a clear outlier -- not what you'd expect to see in an environment of inflationary overheating or monetary debasement.

Kendall Jenner: Back in a Bikini

Kendall Jenner is back in a bikini, although the latest variations aren't especially revealing. At least not compared to the bathing suit that landed her in a bit of trouble in July 2010.

As seen below, the 16-year old recently completed a photo shoot for White Sands Australia, a random swimwear company that makes it clear she has every intention of following in her sister's scantily-clad footsteps.

"This was my first professional swimwear shoot and I got to wear the most gorgeous bathing suits and cute coverups," Kendall's intern wrote on her blog. "What do you guys think of the pics?"

Well... answer the young woman, readers!

Report: Iran ramps up nuke work

By msnbc.com staff and news services

Updated at 3:16 p.m. ET: VIENNA -- Iran has rapidly ramped up production of higher-grade enriched uranium over the last few months, the U.N. nuclear agency said Friday, in a confidential report that feeds concerns about how quickly the Islamic republic could produce an atomic bomb.

The report by the International Atomic Energy Agency also said Iran had failed to give a convincing explanation about a quantity of missing uranium metal. Diplomats say the amount unaccounted for is large enough to be used for experiments in arming a nuclear missile.

"The Agency continues to have serious concerns regarding possible military dimensions to Iran's nuclear program," the Vienna-based U.N. body said in a quarterly report about Iran issued to its member states.

Israel, which has threatened Iran with pre-emptive strikes on its nuclear sites, had no immediate comment on the report. Germany, which has backed tough new sanctions on Iran, said it was further cause for concern.

"Germany is very concerned about the latest report from the IAEA. We think Iran should understand the key to ending sanctions is in their own hands, they have a duty to cooperate with the international community," said German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle.

The Islamic republic's rapid expansion of work which can have both civilian and military purposes underlines that it has no intention of backing down in a long-running row with the West that has sparked fears of war in the Middle East.

Tehran says its nuclear program is exclusively for civilian purposes and denies it aims to make atomic weapons.

Iran thwarted investigation into nuclear program, UN watchdog says

The confidential IAEA report said Iran has, since late last year, tripled output of uranium refined to a level that brings it significantly closer to potential bomb material, an official familiar with the agency's probe said.

Making clear the two sides were far apart, it said there were major differences on how to tackle the issue and that Iran had dismissed the IAEA's concerns as "unfounded." No further meetings are planned.

The setback increased concerns of a downward spiral towards conflict between Iran and the West, and sent oil prices higher.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano urged Iran in the report to provide "early access" to Parchin, a military site near Tehran seen as central to the agency's investigations into possible military aspects of Iran's nuclear work.

The failure of the two-day IAEA visit could hamper any resumption of wider nuclear negotiations between Iran and six world powers - the United States, China, Russia, Britain, France and Germany - as the sense grows that Tehran feels it is being backed into a corner.

The IAEA report said Iran had carried out a significant expansion of activities at its main enrichment plant near the central city of Natanz, and also increased work at the Fordow underground facility.

Enriched uranium can be used to fuel nuclear power plants, which is Iran's stated aim, or provide material for bombs if refined much further, which the West suspects is Tehran's ultimate plan.

At Natanz, the IAEA report said 52 cascades - each containing around 170 centrifuges - were now operating, up from 37 in November.

At Fordow, almost 700 centrifuges are now refining uranium to a fissile concentration of 20 percent and preparations are under way to install many more, the report said.

Fordow is of particular concern for the West and Israel as Iran is shifting the most sensitive aspect of its nuclear work - refining uranium to a level that takes it significantly closer to potential bomb material - to the site.

Estimated to be buried beneath 80 meters (265 feet) of rock and soil, it gives Iran better protection against any Israeli or U.S. military strikes.

The report said Iran had now produced nearly 110 kg of uranium enriched to 20 percent since early 2010. Western experts say about 250 kg is needed for a nuclear weapon, although it would need to be enriched much further.

An IAEA report in November suggested Iran had pursued military nuclear technology helped to precipitate the latest sanctions by the European Union and United States.

Iran last month said it had started to refine uranium to a fissile concentration of 20 percent - compared with the 3.5 percent it mainly produces at Natanz and which is used for nuclear power plants - at Fordow.

Nuclear bombs require uranium enriched to 90 percent, but Western experts say much of the effort required to get there is already achieved once it reaches 20 percent concentration, shortening the time needed for any nuclear weapons "break-out."

Reuters and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Fitness Articles: How To Build Muscle: 3 Tips To Increase Muscle ...

In the fitness world building muscle is one of the biggest goals for many people, but for most they never achieve there goal(s) or they end up plateauing long before reaching them. The good news is that any normal fully functional person can build muscle and lose weight. If you have a medical issue or health problem is the only thing other than yourself.

A person's genes or "body type" plays absolutely no role on what you have to look like! So don't let people brainwash you into believing you can't help the way your built. There is many people including myself that can back this up as well! What it comes down to is simply making the right choices and knowing what you want and most importantly... How to achieve them.

Muscle Building Tip 1: Breaking Down Muscle Tissue Correctly? ?

There are several things that must happen for your body to burn off fat and build muscle and the first one is that you must give it a reason to do it. Simply wanting it to happens isn't good enough. You must physically give it a solid reason why it needs to increase your strength and muscle size!

So the first step is breaking down the muscle tissue (via working out or some other healthy activity) and give it the nutrients it needs to build back bigger and stronger. In order to do this you must push your boundaries and lift heavier and harder as your body gets stronger.

If you continue to lift around the same intensity with the same weight or not being intense enough will not get you any results after a certain point. Remember in order to continue to build your body's newly built muscle tissue you must give more of a shock to and break it down which can't be done with weight or reps/sets it is already used to. That's why your body gets bigger and stronger so you have to keep it pushing to keep the results coming. What was heavy a month ago won't be as heavy the next month so follow the saying "go heavy or go home!".

Muscle Building Tip 2: Focus more on TUT (Time Under Tension) Than Just The Number of Reps

Having a goal for the number of reps you want to reach is good but is not the only thing you should focusing on. Think about it this way... Doing a quick set of 8 reps in under 10 seconds may be challenging but doesn't compare to doing even 6 reps of the same weight for 15 or more seconds. If you've every tried this you know what I mean. If you haven't you should defiantly try a set or two and see how much more challenging it is.

When I'm working out I know when I'm ready to up the weight another 5 pound when I can do 5 to 6 sets of 6 to 8 reps slow without having to dig all the way down to lift it.?

Muscle Building Tip 3: Don't Just Live Healthy Live a Healthy Lifestyle!

Most people have a few healthy habits or they workout some or eat healthy some of the time but that doesn't mean your living a healthy lifestyle. Eating right and working out should be done regularly but you should also be doing more than just that alone. Going for walks, hikes, playing a sport, doing a fun hobby. All of these things you should be doing if only for 30 minutes a few times a week.

Being healthy shouldn't just be a workout and a few meals make it more even if your just going for a walk in the park, a bike ride through a trail, or a swim on the beach. Find activities you enjoy and incorporate them into a lifestyle that is healthy and fun.?

Jason Aldean looking for a 'cool' Grammys moment (AP)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. ? Jason Aldean usually maintains a fairly steely demeanor, yet country music's hottest new male star admits to being more than a little excited about his three Grammy nominations.

"I'm not usually one to say it's an honor to be nominated because I think that sounds so stupid, but in this case I think it is," Aldean said. "When you look at how important the Grammys are and just how much that award means to an artist, to say you're Grammy nominated is a cool thing. I also think saying you're a Grammy Award-winner is a lot cooler."

Aldean is up for country album of the year for "My Kinda Party," best country solo performance for the hit "Dirt Road Anthem" and best country duo/group performance for "Don't You Wanna Stay" with Kelly Clarkson.

He'll also perform at Sunday's ceremony in Los Angeles at the Staples Center. That will cap a period of growth in Aldean's career that has brought him to the top of the genre. More than a million people attended his first arena tour last year (and he's out on the road again); "My Kinda Party," which won the Country Music Association Award for best album, has exceeded two million in sales; and he has just wrapped up recording his untitled fifth album, which will likely be released late this year.

Aldean says he'll have a few surprises on the new album, just as he did on "Party." Songs like the rap-sung "Anthem" and "Stay" helped expand Aldean's musical palette, and both fans and Grammy voters responded.

"When you're making records, you start trying to outdo yourself and worrying about topping your last album or matching what you did," Aldean said. "I think each record is its own individual thing. They're going to be different in their own ways. For me, I'm kind of a risk taker anyway. A lot of times I'm not even conscious of it."

Traditional And Contemporary Reasons For Wearing Labret Studs

A labret piercing (also known as a tongue pillar) is found on an individual?s face, below the lower lip but above the chin. Whilst it is more commonly known for being centred on the face, there are forms of labret piercing that can be found in various positions.

The term ?labret? is frequently mispronounced. As the term is not French, despite popular belief, the ?t? should be pronounced.

Traditionally, the labret piercing was a representation of a person?s status within their particular society. In ancient cultures for example, specifically the Aztecs and Mayans, labret piercing could only be worn by the males in that particular society to emphasise the fact that they were from a higher place on the caste system. Similarly, whenever a mask was made within the society of the American Northwest Coast Indians, a labret form was crafted into the piece if that mask was a representation of someone from a high status.

In this country, this form of body jewellery is often worn as an expression of one?s personality. Whilst a labret piercing can hold a stud or a ring, aesthetically, most people seem to prefer to wear a stud. Labret studs are more practical and easier to change than rings, which may be another reason for the preference to wear labret studs. With the variety of studs available nowadays, by choosing to wear a labret stud you will be given more opportunity to be creative and versatile with your body jewellery.

Once the piercing has healed, it is arguable that wearing a labret stud is the most comfortable of all piercings. This is down to the fact that labret studs have a flat disc that sits comfortably against your gums, therefore causing you no irritation. Because of this, labret studs are suitable for use in many other body piercings. They would be ideal to use in ear piercings for example, as their flat backs means that the studs are less likely to be caught in clothing or hair.

Labret studs are available in a variety of materials including titanium, coloured titanium, stainless steel and plastic retainers. Thanks to their almost invisible appearance, plastic studs are ideal for use during situations where you would prefer your piercing to be more discreet, such as during work hours or when you attend a job interview.

There are various types of a labret piercing, other than the conventional centred position, which are based on where the piercing is positioned on the face. In a vertical labret piercing for instance, a curved barbell protrudes from the top of the lower lip and the centre of the upper chin. A snake bite piercing is where two studs are used to resemble snake fangs, thanks to their position on the face. Similarly, spider bite piercings are so named because of how they are represented on a person?s face; they consist of two labret studs that are placed next to each other on the same side of the face. Finally, a lowbret piercing can be found as low as possible on a person?s chin.

With the wide range of labret studs available and the ability to now design your own piece of body jewellery, you can really be creative. In honour of Valentine?s Day, why not wear a heart stud to show off your sensitive side? Or maybe you could choose to incorporate your favourite gem stone into your labret stud.

Body Matters Gold sell unique jewellery and are able to offer you the finest and most stylish labret studs around. Their team will welcome any ideas you have for your own unique design and will only use top quality materials to custom make their jewellery. If you want to create your own labret stud, contact them today to discuss your unique jewellery ideas.

Heat beat Cavs to close in on conference lead (Reuters)

(Reuters) ? The Miami Heat inched closer to top spot in the Eastern Conference with a 107-91 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday.

Dwyane Wade scored a game-high 26 points and LeBron James had 24 against his former team as the Heat put the game out of reach with a fourth-quarter surge.

Miami led 84-78 with just over nine minutes left before embarking on an 8-0 run that padded the advantage to double digits and helped the Heat (19-6) move within a game of the conference-leading Chicago Bulls.

"The final score was not indicative about how competitive and close that game was," Miami coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters.

"That team is improved. We did some things well on both ends of the court, but we did some things to allow them extra possessions to get back into the game."

The Cavaliers (9-14) are moving forward from losing James to Miami in 2010 with a surprisingly solid start to the season behind No. 1 overall draft pick Kyrie Irving, who recorded 16 points against the Heat.

Antawn Jamison had 25 points and nine rebounds for the Cavaliers, who kept pace with the Heat for three quarters before losing steam in the fourth.

Miami led by just six after three quarters before stepping up the pressure in the fourth.

Chris Bosh had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Heat, who held the Cavs to just 39 percent shooting.

"When you have Daniel Gibson, Anthony Parker and Tristan Thompson (injured) and then have to make adjustments on our starting unit, it makes a difference," said Cavaliers coach Byron Scott.

"Our second unit just couldn't make a basket, they shot about 17 percent for the game."

Russia: Assad wants his VP to speak to opposition (AP)

BEIRUT ? Syrian President Bashar Assad wants his vice president to hold talks with the opposition groups, Russia's foreign minister said, as activists reported that dozens died Wednesday in government bombings of cities and villages across Syria.

A day after holding talks with Assad in an emergency meeting in Damascus, Sergey Lavrov told reporters in Moscow that the Syrian leader has "delegated the responsibility of holding such a dialogue to Vice President (Farouk) al-Sharaa."

Lavrov blamed both Assad's regime and opposition forces for instigating the violence that has killed thousands of people since March. "On both sides there are people that aim at an armed confrontation, not a dialogue," he said.

His comments came as Syrian troops bombed residential neighborhoods in the central city of Homs, the northern province of Idlib, southern region of Daraa and the mountain town of Zabadani, in what activists say is the regime's final push to retake areas controlled by the rebels.

Activists said at least 50 people died in Wednesday's shelling of Homs, which has been under a relentless regime offensive for the past five days. Hundreds are believed to have been killed there since Saturday.

Syria's state-run TV reported that gunmen fired mortar rounds at the oil refinery in Homs, one of two in Syria, setting two fuel tankers on fire.

Assad's regime is becoming increasingly isolated over its bloody crackdown on dissent. Five European countries and six Arab Gulf nations have pulled their ambassadors out of Damascus, and the U.S. has closed its embassy in Syria. Germany, whose envoy left Syria this month, also said he would not be replaced.

Though increasingly ostracized internationally, the Syrian president was bolstered by Tuesday's visit from Lavrov and Russia's intelligence chief, Mikhail Fradkov. During the talks, the Russians pushed for a solution to the Syrian crisis that would include reforms by the regime and a dialogue with the opposition ? but not for Assad to step down.

Assad said Syria was determined to hold a national dialogue with the opposition and independent figures, and that his government was "ready to cooperate with any effort that boosts stability in Syria," according to state news agency SANA.

The Syrian opposition rejects any talks with the regime and says they accept nothing less than Assad's departure.

On Saturday, Russia and China blocked a Western- and Arab-backed U.N. Security Council resolution supporting calls for Assad to hand over some powers to his vice president as a way to defuse the 11-month-old crisis.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 50 people were killed in Wednesday's shelling of the Homs neighborhoods of Bayadah, Baba Amr, Khaldiyeh and Karm el-Zeytoun. The group also said that 23 homes were heavily damaged in Baba Amr alone.

Omar Shaker, an activist in Baba Amr, said his neighborhood was under "very intense shelling" by tanks, mortars, artilleries and heavy machine guns. Shaker added that he counted five bodies Wednesday in his district.

"The situation is dire. We are short of food, water and medical aid. Doctors have collapsed after treating the wounded without rest for five days," Shaker said. "We want Lavrov to come and spend a night in Homs to see what we have been passing through."

The activist urged the international community to set up a safe passage so that women and children can leave volatile areas of Homs. The head of the Observatory, Rami Abdul-Rahman, said the regime was trying "exhaust rebels in preparation for storming neighborhoods."

The Observatory and another activist group, the Local Coordination Committees, also reported intense clashes between troops loyal to Assad and defectors on Wednesday in the province of Idlib, bordering Turkey. The Observatory said at least five soldiers were killed in the clashes.

The LCC said troops backed by tanks were also shelling and pushing forward in the southern village of Tseel in the Daraa province that borders Jordan. The group also said that rebel-controlled Zabadani, west of Damascus, was subjected to intense shelling since the early hours of Wednesday.

The U.N. estimates the government crackdown has killed more than 5,400 people since March, making Syria's conflict one of the deadliest of the Arab Spring.

Hundreds more are believed to have died since the U.N. released that figure in January, but the chaos in the country has made it impossible for the world body to update its figures.

Training the right way in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Martial arts is a combination of training the body and mind to excel in the art. making it easy to succumb to fatigue if you lose your focus. If you're preparing to train for Jiu-Jitsu, it is important to condition your mind and body before facing the challenge.

The principle of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu revolves around full-contact grappling. That is why you need to have an alert mind and a fit body to ensure safety and endurance while training.

For a Martial Artist to succeed and developed his skill, the following should be avoided in training:

Don't overlook the importance of what your eat and how much rest you get.

Since you will use a lot of muscle strength when training for Jiu-Jitsu, you will need a diet that is high in protein and lots of rest to fix up your tired muscles. Not following this guideline will turn a good workout into a slow and sluggish chore.

BJJ training will burn a large amount of calories in a short period of time, and that's why it's important to eat healthy to maintain energy levels.

Feeding your body lots of proteins and carbs will keep the muscles supplied and increase your energy level. Oh, and make sure you get around six to eight hours of sleep since this is the time your muscles will repair themselves and start building up.

Jeopardizing safety to avoid a bruised ego?

Play it smart and be disciplined when practicing your Brazilian jiu jitsu. You have nothing to prove and nobody really expects you to. Besides, at this point, you're still lacking in skills to attempt to be bold.

Just keep your focus and tap out if needed. This is training to develop skill not a competition. The right time will come when you'll be able to show them off in competitions. Leave the ego at the door and play it safe. Most importantly, learn from your mistakes.

Practicing Jiu-Jitsu...

You need to have a real passion for Jiu-Jitsu in order to make your training a more enjoyable experience. Every time you go to your training classes, it must be because you're interested to learn and not just because you have already paid for them. When you're in your classes, don't be afraid to participate. Otherwise, you will only be wasting your time and money. Observe how others move on the mat so you can formulate your own technique.

Everyone Taps...

Naturally, you will experience a lot of losses while training. And when you lose, your body is going to feel it. It is going to be painful not just on your ego but also for your body. Accept defeat gracefully and never give up training. Make sure to breath during training in order not to get tired quicker than normal. This will clear your head and relieve stress while on the mat.

Be Consistent?

Training for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not easy. Stick with a routine and watch as you skill level goes up in short period of time. Stick to the days you scheduled. Don't miss a class or fail a workout session. However, don't push yourself. It is all about balance in Jiu Jitsu training and in Life.

The requirements to excel in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are intense but do not forget to relax and enjoy. It is always best to reevaluate where you are in your training and what needs to be changed or modified in your jiu jitsu game. It is physically demanding but when you're really serious about it, the compensation is well worth the effort.

How To Approach Product Idea Generation

There will always be a need to assume people who read what you write, as it concerns internet marketing, know at least something about the subject. Just imagine taking a complete newbie and trying to explain absolutely everything on home improvement.

There are certain advertising and marketing methods that so many have the wrong idea about due to people spreading rumors and false information on the net.

What we will talk about in this article assumes a certain level of previous learning. That is why so many people buy multiple books or courses about online business related topics, they are looking to round-out their knowledge. If you are about to get started with your marketing, then look hard at what you have done and need to do and be sure you have all you need.

Remember that with any business including online, you have to always focus on the customers and your site visitors. If you are interested to make your own products, then in the beginning you may have to really dig to find a solid product idea. But make no mistake about the importance of striving to expand the number of products you currently have online. Very many people get stuck with this one question which is how is it done and where do the product ideas come from? Those questions can be frustrating, but we assure you they are not when you gain more insights.

There are times when you can get a spark for a great product simply by having a talk with a friend or family member. Talk to people close to you and ask them what annoys them, let them open up and give them their feedback. Ask yourself if the information you received is something that you can create a solution to and, thus, something you can work with. This approach will provide you with viable concepts but remember there is not foolproof equation that will help you figure out which idea will succeed and which won?t. You stand a good chance of generating a promising product idea if you communicate constantly with the people close to you.

Ever thought about adjusting your existing products and services? You don?t want to simply tack on a new feature and call it a new product, but actually overhaul the product completely. Your goal is to make your product contemporary and unique. When you want to release a new product, then, one of the first places to look is in your storehouse of older products. It?s possible, for instance, to expand a smaller, basic product into something more comprehensive and detailed. How much testing do you perform in your business? If you do it, great, and if not then you really need to start using it as quickly as is practical. Also, related to that is when you want to investigate an approach or technique ismilar to Project but do not want to roll it out in full force. We think most rank beginner courses about online marketing either do not mention testing at all or perhaps gloss over it.

Taking action is extremely important, always, but you need to take care about how you approach everything. We all work according to our own way of doing things, and it really does not matter if you work slower than other people. How ever you wish to design your tests, and in what manner of delivery is entirely your call.

What many people do when they just want to get an idea about possibly using anything new on their site is test somewhere other than the home page. Obviously, some type of script that will record test results will be needed.

When you?re analyzing your own products and as well as your competitors, look for gaps. You can then come up with a product that fills a gap, and people will be eager to grab it. Getting product ideas this way is easy because if you?re well versed with your niche, you will know for a fact what these gaps are. Besides that, these gaps don?t have to be huge for you to fill them in. The more you focus on them, the better it is.

Making a success of your internet business can be a severely intimidating process. But when you?re creating new and useful products on a regular basis and improving your existing ones, your customers will be happy. Taking your business to the next level is a matter of taking more and more steps towards developing new product concepts. You will be able to expand your business and take it to the next level. So go ahead and put the above tips into action right away and see for yourself how easy it is to come up with rocking product ideas.

The methods involving Perfect we have just talked about are proven to bring the results you need to add positive growth to your business. Sure, you have just added to your business arsenal by reading this article, but we want to mention something about your general outlook and your web business. Most of the time all of us bring about the conditions that are a reflection of how we think, and of course we are speaking of the context of business. Most people who will read this are probably not seeing the results they want, and there is a good chance that includes you. It all really starts with your thinking, and you can use your thinking to turn your business mental approach completely around. Options; we all have them whether you choose to believe that or not.

Hackers take over law enforcement websites

Saboteurs have hacked into the websites of several law enforcement agencies worldwide in attacks attributed to the collective called Anonymous, including in Boston and in Salt Lake City, where police say personal information of confidential informants and tipsters was accessed.

The hackers in the state of Utah gained access this week to sensitive data, including citizen complaints about drug crimes, including phone numbers, addresses and other personal information, police said.

"We're still knee deep in trying to get a feel for the extent of the problem," Salt Lake City police Detective Dennis McGowan said.

The group claimed responsibility for an attack on the website of a Virginia law firm for a U.S. Marine convicted in a deadly 2005 attack in Haditha, Iraq.

The attacks come after Anonymous published a recording of a phone call between the FBI and Scotland Yard early Wednesday, gloating in a Twitter message that "the FBI might be curious how we're able to continuously read their internal comms for some time now."

In Greece, the Justice Ministry took down its site Friday after a video by activists claiming to be Greek and Cypriot members of Anonymous was displayed for at least two hours.

In Boston, a message posted on the police website Friday said, "Anonymous hacks Boston Police website in retaliation for police brutality at OWS," apparently a reference to the Occupy Wall Street movement. A police spokesman would not confirm Anonymous was responsible.

In a message posted on the Boston Police Department's website, the group said that the site had been attacked several months ago and that hundreds of passwords were released in retaliation for what they called brutality against Occupy Boston.

In October, Boston police acknowledged that various websites used by members of the police department ? including the website belonging to the police patrolmen's association ? had been hacked and possibly compromised. The department said it had asked all department personnel to change their passwords on the police department's network.

Boston's Occupy movement set up camp in the city's financial district for two months this fall. The first hack came about 10 days after Boston police arrested 141 Occupy Boston demonstrators on Oct. 11.

Police dismantled the camp Dec. 10, citing public health and safety concerns.

"They clearly ignored our warnings," the message on the department's website said Friday.

"So you get your kicks beating protesters? "That's OK; we get kicks defacing ... your websites ? again."

"It is unfortunate that someone would go to this extent to compromise BPDNews.com, a helpful and informative public safety resource utilized daily by community members seeking up-to-date news and information about important safety matters," police said in a statement.

The Salt Lake City website remained down Friday as the investigation continued, and police said criminal charges are being considered.

Police blamed the attack on Anonymous' opposition to an anti-graffiti paraphernalia bill that eventually failed in the state Senate. The bill would have made it illegal to possess any instrument, tool or device with the intent of vandalizing an area with graffiti.

The group says it attacked the website of the Virginia law firm of Puckett & Faraj, which represented a U.S. Marine convicted in a 2005 attack in Iraq that resulted in the deaths of 24 unarmed civilians. Attorney Neal Puckett did not immediately return a telephone message and email request for comment Friday.

Anonymous is a collection of Internet enthusiasts, pranksters and activists whose targets have included Visa and MasterCard, the Church of Scientology and law enforcement agencies.

Following a spate of arrests across the world, the group and its various offshoots have focused their attention on law enforcement agencies in general and the FBI in particular.

A 102% Tax Rate? Believe IteShareholder | eShareholder

Meet Mr. 102%.

James Ross, 58, is a founder and managing member of Rossrock, a Manhattan-based private investment firm that focuses on commercial real estate and distressed commercial mortgages. ?I realize I am very fortunate, and in fact I am a member of the 1 percent,? Mr. Ross wrote in an e-mail. His r?sum? is studded with elite institutions: Yale, Columbia Law School and stints at the law firms Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York and Holland & Hart in Denver. Since his company fits the category of private equity, he even has carried interest, the kind of incentive compensation that enabled Mitt Romney to pay such a low tax rate.

Yet Mr. Ross told me that he paid 102 percent of his taxable income in federal, state and local taxes for 2010. ?My entire taxable income, plus some, went to the payment of taxes,? Mr. Ross said. ?This does not include real estate taxes, sales taxes and other taxes I paid for 2010.? When he told friends and family, they were ?astounded,? he said.

In the midst of a national debate over tax rates and tax policy, I lifted the veil last week on my income tax rates for 2010, a year in which I paid 37 percent of my adjusted gross income in federal, state and city income taxes and 74 percent of my taxable income. (Adjusted gross income ? your total income minus retirement plan contributions, tax-exempt interest and other specified exclusions ? is usually higher than taxable income, which is adjusted gross income minus your personal exemptions and itemized deductions. So taxes as a percentage of taxable income are almost always higher.)

I was dismayed by the comparison to Mr. Romney ? who paid 13.9 percent of his adjusted gross income of $21.7 million and 17.5 percent of his taxable income of $17.1 million ? as well as by the possibility that I paid a higher tax rate than just about anyone. So I invited readers to send me e-mails disclosing their tax rates and circumstances.

I was deluged with submissions, including many people who pay a higher rate than I do. But at 102 percent, Mr. Ross was in a category of his own.

??I had no idea I was paying such a high rate,? he told me when we spoke this week. ?I had trouble believing this was possible. I called my accountant, and I said, ?Do you realize I?m paying every penny I have in taxable income? I?m dipping into savings to pay my income tax.? He said, ?It?s unfortunate, but at your income level??? ? with high earned income and large itemized deductions that Mr. Ross can?t take advantage of ? ???that?s just the way it is.??? Mr. Ross?s plight illustrates something that came through in nearly every response and cuts across nearly all income levels: the disparities of the tax code don?t just pit rich against poor or middle class. It taxes people within the same income brackets at grossly unequal rates. ?I cannot help but reflect on the unfairness of the current tax regime,? Mr. Ross wrote. ?Why should I pay 102 percent of my taxable income in taxes when others, with far greater wealth than mine, pay a fraction of that??

I asked Robert Willens, a tax expert and New York attorney, if such a thing were possible, and he said it was. ?It?s entirely within the realm of possibility,? he said. ?I can?t recall any clients quite that high, but I?ve had people come close.?

How could Mr. Ross pay so much? I thought I was the victim of a perfect storm of punitive tax policies, but Mr. Ross?s situation is worse. Like me, he lives and works in New York City, which all but guarantees a high tax rate. Nearly all of his income is earned income and thus fully taxable at top rates. (He said that?s not always the case, but given the recent dire condition of real estate, in 2010 he had few capital gains and his carried interest didn?t yield any income.) Unlike me, he can?t make any itemized deductions, which means his adjusted gross income exceeds $1 million, the level at which New York State eliminates all itemized deductions, except for 50 percent of the value of charitable contributions. Mr. Ross said he gave 11 percent of his adjusted gross income to charity.

That means Mr. Ross can?t deduct any interest expense on the money he borrows to finance his real estate investments, which is substantial, nor can he deduct any other expenses or other itemized deductions except for part of his charitable contributions. This means he pays an enormous amount in state and local taxes. Since those are among the deductions that are disallowed when computing the federal alternative minimum tax, Mr. Ross is in turn especially hard hit by the A.M.T.

Because Mr. Ross has so many deductions, his tax as a percentage of adjusted gross income, as opposed to taxable income, is 20 percent, which is much lower than mine. Still, all those deductions, such as interest expense, are money out of Mr. Ross?s pocket, which is why he has had to draw on his savings to pay his taxes. Mr. Willens made the argument that because of that, taxable income may be a better comparison for measuring the tax burden. In any event, by either measure Mr. Ross pays a higher rate than Mr. Romney

Mr. Ross said he asked his accountant what he could do. ?He said, ?Fire everyone here and move to Florida,??? according to Mr. Ross. He employs 10 people in his New York office.

Mr. Ross may be a member of the 1 percent, but many people who responded and said they paid high tax rates weren?t. Eliana S. Rivero is a professor emeritus at the University of Arizona who told me she gets by on Social Security, a TIAA-CREF pension fund and a small amount of royalty income. She said she paid just over 26 percent of her adjusted gross income in income taxes.

?I reacted the way you did when Romney?s tax status was revealed: ?I went to my calculator,? Dr. Rivero wrote.? ?Much to my dismay and, yes, outrage, I pay?almost double?the tax rate he does. ?And I promise you, I am very far from the 1 percent crowd!!!

?I worked for 45 years in my chosen profession, helped educate quite a few of?the present?generation college faculty, received?several teaching and scholarly awards, and yet my government taxes me right and left for the moderate wages I earned but lets the wealthy get away with paying proportionately less than I do. I?truly wouldn?t mind it so much if my taxes went to pay for schools and bridges and roads but?when they go to wars and loopholes for the mega-rich, I see red!?

A disproportionate number of high-rate taxpayers appear to be self-employed and many are professionals, such as lawyers, doctors, dentists and architects with mostly earned income rather than dividends and capital gains. Some are in the upper 1 percent, but most aren?t. Architects, who as a group may be the most underpaid profession relative to their education, talent and responsibility, seem especially disadvantaged by the current tax code.

Daniel Kelley is an architect who wrote from Philadelphia. ?My wife and I have a 20-year-old architecture firm employing 20 to 30 full-time professional people,? Mr. Kelley said. ??In 2010, we paid 31.3 percent federal taxes on our adjusted gross income. ?We paid 37.5 percent federal, state, local taxes on our adjusted gross income. If our practice was in New York, I imagine the latter would approach 45 percent.?Instead of tax breaks for people who make a living from their money, perhaps there should be reduced taxes for those of us who have small businesses and employ Americans. ?I don?t necessarily mind the very rich making money, but if they don?t pay a fair tax, then they are stealing from the rest of us.??

Journalists and authors were also well represented. Jeffrey Bennett, author of ?Math for Life? and numerous other books, reported that he paid 26.8 percent of his adjusted gross income in federal taxes, topping my 24 percent rate, but because he lives in Colorado, his total federal and state burden is lower than mine though still far higher than Mr. Romney?s. Ironically, a chapter in Mr. Bennett?s book discusses the ?insanity of our current tax policies,? he said. ?And despite our high rate, you can mark us down in the category of people who believe our rate should be increased. After all, it?s either us paying it or our children, and it?s not right to pass it on down the line.?

And for those of you who questioned how I could be a business columnist and yet be such a sap, James Cramer, the host of ?Mad Money? on CNBC and founder of the financial Web site TheStreet.com, disclosed that he paid a higher rate than I do. He forwarded an e-mail from his accountant estimating that he paid 45 to 50 percent of his adjusted gross income in income taxes in 2010. Mr. Cramer?s taxes are especially high ? and complicated ? because he lives in New Jersey and works in New York and New Jersey, so he pays income taxes in both high-tax states (and gets a credit on his New Jersey return for his New York taxes). Most of Mr. Cramer?s income is earned, and thus is fully taxed. Although he had capital gains, they were offset by losses. ?The best way to have everyone pay their fair share is to tax all income (whether earned or unearned) at the same rates,? his accountant, Jeffrey Rosenthal, said.

One thing that emerged loud and clear is that a large swath of hard-working people are paying a high rate and are furious about it ? not because they object to paying taxes, even high taxes, but because so many people, even billionaires, pay at a much lower rate than they do.

The tax code, Dr. Rivero wrote, ?is written to favor the rich,?who have not created all those jobs they were supposed to generate.? The rich themselves are some of the most distressed. ?None of the dialogue about taxes has anything to do with fairness,? Mr. Ross lamented. ?Certain rich people are paying way more their fair share and other rich people are paying a lot less. I?d like to see a conversation take place along nonideological lines where everyone is asked to pay their fair share, where everyone makes some payment, even if it?s one dollar. Everyone I know is so disgusted. People aren?t stupid. They know what?s going on. At the end of the day, the system is broken.?
