President Obama Sings "Sexy and I Know It" ... Sort of

Barack Obama is sexy, and he knows it.

So much so that The President of the United States loves to sing "Sexy and I Know It" by LMFAO, it turns out. Okay, "sings" is a bit of a stretch. But he does speak the lyrics in this montage of spliced-together clips set to the beat.

The result? Pretty hilarious. Enjoy:

Ignore advice on 'Idol'? Singers better be sure

By Craig Berman, TODAY.com contributor

Kevin Winter / Getty Images

"American Idol" contestants Heejun Han and Phillip Phillips both disregarded the mentors' advice on March 21, but it paid off for one of them.

?American Idol? provides each of its finalists the opportunity to listen to and learn from experts every week. But that doesn?t mean that the contestants take advantage of it. Instead, many choose to ignore the fashion tips, song guidance and general notes from the mentors, guests and judges.

For some, like Phillip Phillips, going their own way has been the right move. Others (Heejun Han!) continue to risk the wrath of those in power by dismissing their opinions. But there doesn?t need to be confusion about which way to go. Here?s a quick reminder to the remaining singers about handling ?suggestions,? helpful or otherwise.

It?s OK to ignore the feedback ...
1. ... because you know who you are as an artist.
Scotty McCreery was urged several times last season to sing something other than country songs. He smiled, nodded and kept singing country songs. He won. Hard to argue that he wasn?t smart to trust his talent.

Last week, Jimmy Iovine told Phillip to leave his guitar behind, and Tommy Hilfiger tried to give him a makeover. He nodded politely, ignored both suggestions and got nothing but praise for doing so. Elise Testone entered in a more precarious position and likewise was successful despite ignoring most of the advice she was given. When you know who you are and what you can do, trust yourself.

2. ... when it comes from Jimmy Iovine or the guest mentors.
Jimmy has been a very good addition to the show and provides a tiny dose of realism in a show that?s often all about the positive. But as far as his opinions go, he?s like the local official who is always overruled. He can make pronouncements, but the guys who count are the three judges on the appeals court named Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez?and Steven Tyler. Don?t listen to Jimmy if it will put you in conflict with the big bosses.

Similarly, Tommy Hilfiger is on the show to sell product, not to make you a better singer. If his clothes are going to make you self-conscious onstage and sing worse, don?t listen to him. Now that Paula Abdul is gone, how many people really care how fashion-forward you look anyway? And did going with his suggestions do Erika Van Pelt any good?

3. ?... when it?s the opposite of what they told you last week.
This perennially kills some of the younger singers. They?re so eager to please that they do whatever they?re told, which pulls them in a million different directions and leaves them without an identity. DeAndre Brackensick, we're talking to you here.

4. ... when the advice is dumb.
Pia Toscano was an early favorite last year. Then the judges mentioned that they?d like to see her sing something besides a ballad. She gave them what they wanted and sang ?River Deep, Mountain High.? She got the boot.

Contestants have to keep in mind that sometimes the judges are being profound, and sometimes they?re talking to hear the sound of their own voices. Don?t get kicked off the show just because Randy felt the need to say something after five minutes of silence and you took him seriously.

It?s not OK to ignore the feedback ...
1. ... when you?re rude about it.
Look, it?s easy to get a big head because you?re on this hit show singing for millions of fans. You may think you know it all and that any criticism is merely a speed bump on the yellow brick road to stardom. In other words, you may look like Elise for the first couple of weeks of the finals.

But keep in mind that guys like Jimmy wouldn?t have given you the time of day six months ago, and now all these big shots are trying to help you out. Take the advice or don?t, but don?t act like you?re above it all.

2. ... when you waste their time.
It?s perfectly fine for Heejun to stick with his comedy/music act when its his turn to perform. That?s his persona. Besides, Taylor Hicks won by being an entertainer in season five, so there is some precedent for success here. But it?s not OK for him to blow off the mentoring sessions and turn them into his comic foil every week. All that does is make those people mad. Every now and then, every contestant needs to at least pretend to listen and feed the egos of those above them. Which leads us to ...

3. ... when it angers the judges.
It?s one thing to annoy the mentors. But getting the judges on your bad side is bad news. Plenty of viewers base their decisions on what that trio says. So for Heejun, it was smart to make nice with Steven on Wednesday. You don?t want him sniping at you from the stand. He can make your life miserable, and the sympathy votes only take you so far.

4. ... when it?s good advice
Randy, J.Lo, Steven, Jimmy and everyone else on the show may be there mostly because of casting. But as it's pointed out every week, the famouse faces?all have been successful in the music business and know what it takes to reach the top. Shockingly enough, sometimes they know what they?re talking about.

In particular, listen to J.Lo. When she talks about engaging with the audience, she's got just a smidge of experience in putting those suggestions into practice for herself. And in general, taking the judges notes on small things makes them feel good about themselves. If they're feeling good, odds are favorable that they'll say things that make you feel good as well.

When do you think the "Idol" hopefuls should ignore the advice of the judges and mentors? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page!

Injured Football Players Look for Relief Through the Legal System ...

It's part of the game, right? Football players tackle each other, cheered on by their coaches and fans, including some of the most passionate in the sport here in New York. But at all levels of the game there is risk of injury, and limits on tackling are set by the rules of football and the principles of sportsmanship.

Now the National Football League is reeling from the discovery of an outrageous "pay-for-pain" bounty system used by the New Orleans Saints. The Saints apparently paid defensive players bonuses for taking out opponents with deliberately excessive, injury-causing hits.

The uproar over this manifestly unfair practice comes at a time when public awareness of the danger of sports concussions is rising. When the bounty scheme was exposed, almost 400 former players were already trying to sue the NFL for negligence, seeking to be compensated for head injuries they received while playing. In a previous case from 1973, a federal appellate court held that a football player can be held responsible for injuries that occur while playing if the act is done with "reckless disregard for the opponent's safety."

The injured players, like all current and former players, signed on to a collective bargaining agreement with the NFL that forbids them from filing lawsuits in court and dictates that they must use arbitration instead. The players, though, claim that the NFL lied to them about the medical consequences of multiple concussions.

The NFL's fraudulent behavior, they say, means the players are not bound by the agreement and can proceed with their lawsuits, just like other professional, collegiate or amateur athletes dealing with injuries caused by another's reckless actions. Now the existence of the pay-for-pain arrangement lends fuel to the pros' fire. Players who can show their injuries were caused by the unsportsmanlike big hits have extra leverage to use in arguing for the right to sue in court.

Pitch in and tackle do-it-together home improvement projects | Pro ...

(ARA) ? Why do-it-yourself (DIY) when you can do-it-together? Now DIYers are teaming up with friends, families or companies to tackle home improvement and spring-cleaning projects.

?Tackling home improvement or maintenance projects is a great way to work together with others in your community to accomplish more in less time,? says Kathy Krafka Harkema, spokesperson for Pella Windows and Doors.

How about tackling a do-it-together project like tree-trimming, landscaping or gardening projects to help spruce up the neighborhood? Share tools and labor with friends to clean up the backyard, build a deck or patio, or paint outdoor areas. Get the kids involved in chores like planting trees, spreading mulch or washing decks, patio furniture or your windows. Join together to get all the windows in the neighborhood sparkly clean.

About 69 percent of men and 74 percent of women are likely to clean and wash their windows during spring cleaning, according to the 2011 National Spring Cleaning Survey by the American Cleaning Institute. But many are unsure of how to do it.

?Make conducting a quick home check-up and cleaning your windows part of your spring home improvement checklist to create a better view and help enhance your home?s potential energy efficiency,? Krafka Harkema says. ?Team up with your neighbors so everyone?s windows look good. Use the right tools, cleaners and equipment to do the job safely and correctly.?

Window washing tips

Follow these tips from experts at Pella on how to clean windows and insect screens:

* Delegate members of your team to different jobs to maximize efficiency.

* Use a premixed vinegar and water solution (one part white vinegar for 10 parts water) and a soft, lint-free cloth to wash window glass.

* Apply a generous amount of cleaner and rinse with clear water if streaks remain.

* If needed to remove grease, oil, tape adhesive, crayons or paint marks, apply a solvent such as acetone or mineral spirits to a paper towel. Wipe clean using a dry, clean, lint-free cloth.

* Avoid ammonia- or alcohol-based glass cleaners that can leave streaks or a film that attracts moisture and dust.

* Avoid using a razor blade to scrape off stubborn marks on glass ? permanent scratches may result.

* To remove dust and dirt from screens, simply vacuum with the upholstery brush.

* For grease spots on kitchen or patio screens, use hot water and a mild detergent.

* For a flat screen on a storm door or patio door, remove the screen and wash with soap and water. Or use a drapery brush attachment on a vacuum.

Remember, cleaning windows from inside your home is safer than standing on a tall ladder. Consider replacement windows with a tilt-in feature, like Pella double-hung windows, or extra-wide openings between the sash and frame, like Pella casement windows, to make window cleaning easier.

Hate cleaning your blinds? Replace worn-out windows with Pella Designer Series windows or patio doors with optional shades or blinds between glass to virtually eliminate the need to dust or clean them. For more home improvement ideas, visit Pella.com or call (888) 847-3552.

How to Generate a protective cover Page this Gets Study ...

How to Generate a protective cover Page this Gets Study

I?ve noticed a large number of example of a cover letter for a resume hundreds of cvs using the services of software web developers, internet makers, copyeditors, sales staff, in addition to admins intended for my personal provider,
One thing this statistic must bounce available to you ( space ) I?ve go through far a lot fewer resumes in comparison with cover letters. That?s simply because your own employment cover letter is actually a essential part of finding the curriculum vitae study.

Although there?s an additional stat that will isn?t because clear: I don?t understand the majority of the cover characters I personally obtain!

You could start to? Due to the fact almost all cover letters are really awful that they can obtain dumped promptly.
Don?t acquire auto-trashed. Here?s several recommendations intended for composing your fantastic job application letter that may get the cv in to the ?Good? pile.

A person. Refer to additional recommendations

Do not figure out ?recommendations are obtainable upon request.? Do you assume I?ve the time or even interest in order to root our your current suggestions prior to I personally have any idea you actually?

When you have excellent recommendations, why is this you do not possess a 1-3 word quote? In addition to should you do, place this front and center in your and how to make a cover letter for a resume!

For example, state I need to a position writing weblog discussions. I have a blog personally, along with one particular day I obtained this e mail (true narrative). Do not anyone recognize simply estimating the idea would be improved in comparison with dealing with myself?
Merely wanted to adopt a short time of the the perfect time to appreciate it for your outstanding weblog. Don?t notify anybody but I get giddy similar to a schoolgirl once i observe certainly one of your site content pop up at my audience.
A person?s blog is almost certainly significantly additional motivating for you to other individuals in comparison with a person recognize. You regularly deliver reassurance and also workable suggestions of which energizes individuals anything like me since we go after each of our own business objectives.
I possibly could try to talk about the exact same point inside a employment cover letter: ?I produce thought-provoking parts that people today answer.? Yes appropriate, you and also every person in addition.
The idea only looks true whenever it is through a person else?s mouth area.

two. Do not utilize a web template

You?ll find job cover letter themes just about all over the internet. I?m never linking for them mainly because anyone shouldn?t make use of them.
A web template makes the notice appear for instance all of the sleep. While I?m seeking through One hundred words per day, My spouse and i notice the layouts. That doesn?t challenege show up web site will be! You receive auto-trashed for the reason that you are monotonous along with thoughtless.
If you?d like to use the format just to get thoughts on paper, that is excellent. Then again adjust issues in place, don?t make use of the identical words, in addition to don?t say items within the identical order.
The objective is always to stay ahead of the group, correct?

three. Study this business you are applying to

A generic jop application cover letter that is spammed for you to 75 Time business units is usually apparent.
What exactly, you didn?t assume transmitting formed so that you can 75 corporations was junk? Just because you mailed this so that you can jobs@whatever.net doesn?t necessarily mean it is not necessarily trash.
I can tell inside 5 moments whether or not the particular customer features just about any inkling which we?re or perhaps that which we conduct. In case many people haven?t bothered to complete this, I do know they?re new laws on spamming.

Great applicants do not should unsolicited mail. Superior prospects health care where they will work and also act like their time period is usually valuable.

That doesn?t bring much to overpower this hindrance. A person do not must trial run their software program or even heavily investigation a marketplace. Just simply take a look at the actual household website, ?About United states,? and maybe FAQs and get oneself items such as:
??? ?Why accomplishes this firm can be found?
??? ?Who are usually their consumers?
??? ?Why conduct folks buy these items?
??? ?What may be the traditions like only at that firm?

For more information about objective statements for resumes you can take a look at our website about how to write a cover letter for a resume.

Have a little abrasive notion with the advice, subsequently steer away from the notification by using it (or simply just after your current lead-off recommendation). Make it appear including you want to perform there, in addition to verify them.
For example:
I ran across a person?s web site when on the lookout for great locations to be able to perform with Austin texas. A person stood out mainly because, as a software package creator myself, My partner and i love the idea of operating for a creator application. Also, though We do not have a lot of expertise together with professional code critique, I love precisely what you have to say about that along with I?m pumped up about mastering additional. Lastly, examining your employment account demonstrated you might have a sense of hilarity, in addition to that?s crucial in my experience.
See how We didn?t have to incorporate anything complex, My partner and i didn?t need to recognize any kind of features, My spouse and i didn?t must commit to memory the information linen. I merely discussed adequate issues to produce the idea clear that I actually thought about whether We wish to function here just before I actually published in declaring My partner and i want to function here.
4. Become private, definitely not elegant
A typical intelligence is to work with formal vocabulary; you would like to generate a fantastic effect and also demonstrate it is possible to compose and act professional.
Well you choose to do should verify it is possible to create, and also it?s important which you can cause and workout correct grammar, nevertheless in case you seem like a automatic robot an individual won?t stand out.
Persons need to work using individuals they enjoy. It is not just for cvs along with summary sentences plus shortened forms and objective assertions.
In truth, if perhaps someone likes you they?re far more likely to battle for you even if a few of the ?requirements? don?t fit specifically.
Stodgy, official prose is a great approach to display you might have virtually no character so you aren?t entertaining to become by using. It is likely even if it?s just correct! But all of they are fully aware about yourself can be your resume cover letter, therefore you have so that you can verify it at this time there.
Would you work the particular danger which many people will probably be powered down as well as turn down you for the lively design and style? Yes! But then, do you need to perform for that company?
This really is similar to adult dating. It is possible to imagine to become an individual you?re not necessarily, and this could possibly even ensure you get the career. In case it?s never a true people, the item will not be enjoyable inside the end.
5. Supply causes the reason why you?ll want to become used
Last school discussion, for a longer period before as compared to I personally choose to acknowledge, many of us were shown to be able to finish your final language having ?voters.? Of which intended: ?Give a specific reasons precisely why it is best to gain.? As soon as you are all in all, treating each and every little stage isn?t persuasive; what?s compelling ( space ) just what you would like to abandon in the idol judges go while they think about the particular success ( space ) would be the factors they will need to political election for you.
Ones cover letter would be the very same technique. This really is certainly not a location to bond all the info you can concerning yourself. No one has feelings for you (yet) of your background. No one desires you just read commonly used transactions about how precisely you like issues as well as perform nicely using a group.
Relatively, your purpose is always to find for the application. Ones job application can have the only thing that stuff.
So provide your own voters. Simply inform me the key reason why I personally really should take a look at your own curriculum vitae.
Expressing you realize pertaining to our provider in addition to need to work here within particular is actually a superior commence. Right now analyze something interesting in regards to you that?s relatively special. Display myself a thing I?m not really likely to examine anyplace in addition. A thing in which exhibits my family you are each entertaining and interesting along with intelligent.
For example, once a guy sent in a video clip regarding himself juggling 3 keep leads (the company?s identity was Smart Carry). Juggling is actually fun. Flick has been unforeseen.
Some. Show a thing an individual, your self, basically performed
I actually utilised that will creepy ?you, yourself? importance for the reason that I?m sick and tired with reading through in regards to a team a person were with along with a undertaking anyone were involved with, even when you had been the group head.
That is excellent, although everyone says that.
Rather, analyze concerning one thing that you just by itself finished. Greater, some thing real I can see on the internet.
Good examples:
??? ?You possess a private web-site of which exhibits you are superior at Thumb or perhaps web style.
??? ?You added pads in an open up supply project.
??? ?You run a nearby balancing party.
??? ?You possess a side-project that you just admit is definitely quite difficult but the truth is had been employing the item to be able to discover regarding Dark red in Track.
??? ?You composed any brief report that you just recognize needs perform however you believed it had been a very good example of your publishing expertise.
Realization
Put oneself in the sneakers from the terrible slob who is slogging through plenty of those letters. Protein shake of which person way up. Possibly be diverse. Make use of your own text. Demonstrate which you acquire gumption. Learn regarding the organization and show a provider some thing in regards to you.
First and foremost, become oneself. Once they don?t just like you for you, it is certainly not going to become a good career. And if they generally do such as you for you, it?s heading to become a lot of fun.

(AP) ? Once upon a time, Billy Donovan took Rick Pitino on an improbable ride to the Final Four.

Twenty-five years later, Pitino is heading back after another unbelievable run ? one capped with an amazing late-game rally that left his old protege wondering what the heck happened.

Freshman forward Chane Behanan made the go-ahead basket with 1:06 left Saturday and Pitino's fourth-seeded Louisville Cardinals outscored Florida by 15 points over the final 10 minutes for a 72-68 victory in the West Regional final.

And all Pitino could think afterward was, "Hate to do that to ya, kid."

"Tonight, it was very difficult because of the way the game ended, because they outplayed us for 32 minutes," Pitino said. "And it really hurt inside. As much as I felt like celebrating, it really hurt because he did such a masterful job of coaching."

Russ Smith, who finished with 19 points, followed Behanan's bucket with a pair of free throws and then Florida freshman Bradley Beal and teammate Kenny Boynton each missed chances to tie in the final seconds.

Louisville made one more free throw to seal the game and reach its ninth Final Four, the second under Pitino, despite playing the final 3:58 without point guard Peyton Siva, who fouled out.

Seventh-seeded Florida (26-11) went out in the regional final for the second straight year, with Donovan falling to 0-7 lifetime against the man who coached him on that Final Four team at Providence in 1987, hired him as an assistant at Kentucky a few years later and felt as proud as a papa when he watched Donovan win his two national titles in 2006 and 2007.

"I said this earlier, for myself, I don't think any of us like losing," Donovan said. "But if someone said to me, 'You have to lose a game, who would it be to?' I would say him."

Louisville will take an eight-game winning streak on its trip New Orleans. Awaiting is a possible matchup with Pitino's old school, Kentucky, which will have to get by Baylor on Sunday to set up a grudge match to end them all.

"We think they're excellent. We think they're great. I coached there. It's great. Great tradition," Pitino said. "But we want to be Louisville. We have a different mission. They have a different mission. But we both want to get to a Final Four and win a championship."

This game had a much more warm-and-fuzzy story line than that possible Bluegrass State matchup ? a meeting between two men who say theirs is more of a father-son relationship than anything else.

But make no mistake. This was no heartwarmer.

Donovan got under Pitino's skin early in the second half during a timeout when he worked over the officials, who promptly called a foul against the Cardinals (30-9) when play resumed.

"He called that," Pitino shouted to the ref. "Why don't you just give him a whistle?"

Pitino couldn't get a break for a while after that and when Siva picked up his fourth foul, the coach stomped onto the court and got hit with a technical. Erving Walker made four straight free throws and the Gators led by 11, setting the stage for what could've been Donovan's fourth trip to the Final Four.

But the team that went 8 for 11 from 3-point range in the first half went cold ? really cold ? not hitting any of nine attempts from beyond the arc in the second.

The Gators missed six shots and committed one turnover over the last 2:30. They didn't score after Boynton's layup gave them a 68-66 lead with 2:39 left. They finished with 14 turnovers to six for Louisville ? probably the difference in a game in which they still outshot Louisville 50 percent to 45.

"What happens is, you can't lose confidence," Pitino said. "I kept telling our guys we're going to the Final Four. Win the Big East tournament, we're going to the Final Four. And they did."

They did it with a team pretty much void of stars.

But the game's best freshman on this day wasn't Beal, but rather Behanan, who was far less heralded than the Florida star coming out of high school, but outplayed him down the stretch when the trip to New Orleans was on the line.

The freshman from Cincinnati scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half, including nine over the last 8:02 and Louisville's last two field goals ? both after Siva had fouled out with nine points and eight assists.

Beal, meanwhile, matched Erik Murphy with a team-high 14 points and controlled this game for the first 37 minutes.

But over the last 3, he tried twice to take the ball to the hoop, only to get denied by 6-foot-10 center Gorgui Dieng. Beal missed the desperation 3 in the waning seconds and also got called for traveling after stealing a wild pass from Smith while Louisville was nursing a one-point lead with 18 seconds left.

The Gators came into the tournament losing four of five but won their first two games in the NCAAs by an average of 30. They looked as though they'd be playing in the Superdome next weekend, but then they fell apart.

"It was a tough journey for us. I think we stuck with it and we played together as a team," Beal said. "We got this far. I'm real proud of our guys. It's just unfortunate we ended up losing today."

In the first half, Donovan looked like the better coach, though anyone would look good when his team is shooting that way. The Gators went 8 for 11 from 3, 6 for 10 from inside the arc and constantly harassed Louisville en route to a 41-33 lead.

But Pitino didn't become the first coach to take three programs to the Final Four for nothing. He scrapped the zone defense, had his players get up in the face of the Gators and it worked ? though the Cardinals paid the price in foul trouble.

Behanan and Kyle Kuric each finished the game with four fouls. When Siva got his fourth and Pitino got his 'T,' the coach tried to settle things down, stepping up to Siva and saying, "It was a foul. Stop saying it wasn't."

Whether he believed it or not, who knows?

As for whether he thought a comeback was possible, especially playing the final 4 minutes without Siva on the floor? Well, Pitino did say in the lead-up to this game that the 1987 trip to the Final Four made him believe anything's possible.

This is his first trip back since 2005, when Louisville also played a clunker of a first half against West Virginia ? but rallied for an improbable win.

This one had a different feel at the end, because this one was between family.

The coaches shared a quick hug at center court after the final buzzer.

"I said, 'Billy, I feel bad. I feel terrible, man,'" Pitino said. "He said, 'Are you kidding me, Coach? I am so happy for you.' That just doesn't happen in this world."

Free Six Flags tickets a Facebook scam

Want to go for a ride? Sign up for the "Free Six Flags Tickets" spreading around Facebook right now and in no time you'll experience the G-force speeds, hair-raising turns and death-defying plunges of survey scams and potential identity theft.

The bogus "limited-time" offer, for a four-pack of tickets to your nearest outpost of the amusement park, prompts you first to share the Facebook page, then add a thank you comment below it, Facecrooks' scam-sniffing watchdogs report.

"If you did make the mistake of sharing the scam link, then you are now spamming your friends with the very same message," Facecrooks wrote.

For those behind the scam, the payoff comes in the next step, when victims are taken to a legitimate-looking Facebook spoof page and told that in order to claim the free tickets, they must take a quick survey. The offer goes a (buttery and delicious) step further: The survey, along with getting you those tickets, could qualify you for a Dodge Challenger or free lunches for a year at Chick-fil-A.

As with all suspicious Facebook offers and surveys, no matter how delicious or exciting it sounds, you should never pursue it. This particular ticket scam may be just a social networking inconvenience, but many similar surveys are loaded with malware or are out to siphon your email address and credit card number or sign you up for expensive text message subscriptions you never asked for.

Arm yourself against potentially dangerous Facebook scams by running anti-malware software on your computer. If you fall for tricks like the phony Six Flags offer or similar promises, remove any references to the scam from your newsfeed and profile ? and never fill out any surveys.

Kidnapped British woman freed in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) ? A British tourist freed Wednesday by Somali pirates after six months in captivity said she did not know for weeks that her husband was killed in the raid on a luxury beach resort on the Kenyan coast.

"I just assumed he was alive," Judith Tebbutt said, speaking haltingly in a video broadcast by the BBC, adding that her son, Oliver, told her of the killing.

"That was difficult," she said, her head and body cloaked in long gray headscarf with a pink floral print and her face marked by grief.

The 56-year-old Tebbutt was freed Wednesday after pirates were reportedly paid a ransom. David Tebbutt, 58, was killed during the September attack, one of a string of kidnappings by Somali gunmen near the resort town of Lamu, not far from the Somali border. Kenya's military cited those attacks as the reason it sent troops into Somalia to attack al-Shabab militants in October.

Tebbutt praised her son's efforts in winning her freedom, telling Britain's ITV News: "I don't know how he did it, but he did, which is great."

British officials declined to go into details about the circumstances of Tebbutt's release, or comment on any ransom demand. But a pirate spokesman said a ransom had been paid and British news reports said her family paid it.

"Our position is that we do not pay ransoms and we do not facilitate concessions to hostage-takers," said a spokesman for Prime Minister David Cameron.

Pirates have long earned multimillion dollar payoffs for taking ships and crews hostage, though families of individual captives have reportedly paid far less. A member of the Somali militia Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama said a ransom was paid, but did not give a figure.

During her captivity, Tebbutt said she got sick three times but the pirates gave her medication and she recovered. Her captors made her "feel as comfortable as possible," she told ITV.

Gunmen entered the Tebbutts' cottage at the Kiwayu Safari Village resort easily on the night of Sept. 10 ? the door was only a piece of colorful cloth. Police believe David Tebbutt resisted and was shot. The Tebbutts were the only tourists staying at the 18-cottage resort, located along a private beach 30 miles (50 kilometers) north of Lamu, and the kidnappers spirited Judith Tebbutt away in a boat.

A month later, gunmen kidnapped a disabled French woman who lived part-time in Lamu. She died in captivity.

Kidnapping is big business in Somalia, where opportunities to make money are limited.

In January, U.S. Navy SEALs parachuted into Somalia and hiked to where a criminal gang was holding a 32-year-old American and a 60-year-old Dane kidnapped last October. Nine captors were killed in the raid that freed the two hostages.

Referring to the Navy SEAL operation, Tebbutt said her captors moved her repeatedly after it occurred.

"That night I was woken up and was moved around," Tebbutt told ITV. "It was very disorientating. To be woken in the middle of the night and moved and you'd stay there for a little while and then you'd move again."

After arriving in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, Tebbutt said she was "hugely relieved to at last be free, and overjoyed to be reunited with my son Ollie."

"This, however, is a time when my joy at being safe again is overwhelmed by my immense grief ... following David's passing," she said in a statement. "My family and I now need to grieve properly."

Criminals in Somalia still hold an American taken in January. Other hostages held in Somalia include two Spanish aid workers seized in Kenya, a French military adviser and hundreds of sailors of various nationalities hijacked by pirates at sea.

Rick Blears, a spokesman for Save Our Seafarers, an anti-piracy group, said he welcomed the news of Tebbutt's release and hoped her situation could shed light on all the captive sailors.

"Many of them are kept in appalling conditions while slow ransom negotiations with shipping insurers take place," he said. "Many of their families are just far too poor to pay any kind of random."

Tebbutt joins a list of Europeans kidnapped and released by Somali pirates. A British yachting couple, Paul and Rachel Chandler, were taken near the Seychelles and held for 388 days, often under brutal conditions. The Johansens ? a Danish family of two parents and three teenage children ? were held for six months.

The Somali government said it was relieved to hear of Tebbutt's release. The minister of information wished her a quick recovery and offered condolences for the loss of her husband.

"The Somali government will assist in any way it can in the capture and the arrest of the kidnappers who murdered her husband and kept her hostage," the minister, Abdulkadir Hussein, said. He also asked the international community to aid Somalia in its fight against extremists.

Bin Laden widow's injury worsens in custody, brother says

NBC News

Zakaria al-Sadah speaks to NBC News' Amna Nawaz about his fight to free his sister, Osama bin Laden's widow, from Pakistani custody.

By Amna Nawaz, NBC News correspondent

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan ? Zakaria al-Sadah, Osama bin Laden's brother-in-law, said he is worried for the health of his sister, who was shot in the raid that killed the al-Qaida leader.??

Speaking to NBC News in Islamabad on Tuesday in his first interview with an American television network, al-Sadah talked about his fight to free his sister, Amal al-Sadah, who has been held, along with her five children, by the Pakistan government since the May 2011 raid by U.S. Navy SEALs.

"I want to get them out as soon as possible," al-Sadah said, "because kids, they can forget the past in the right environment. They will carry on."

Favorite wife
Twenty-nine year old Amal al-Sadah, originally from Yemen, had an arranged marriage with bin Laden when she was 17 or 18, in 1999 or 2000. She lived with him and their five children, now between three and 12 years old, in the Abbottabad compound made notorious by the U.S. forces' nighttime raid in which her husband was killed.

Al-Sadah said he was at home in Yemen when he got the news of the American raid and that his sister's presence at the compound shocked him and his family.?

"We didn't know that our sister was with him at the time," he said. "My mother, my father, my whole family was surprised that this had happened and she was actually there."

He explained that his family had been largely estranged from Amal after her marriage to bin Laden. Any communication between them was infrequent, and usually came through couriers. He didn't even know she or bin Laden were living in Abbottabad.

Bin Laden is believed to have been married six times, but divorced two of his wives. Amal was the last to marry him, his youngest wife, and reportedly also his favorite. Bin Laden reportedly spent the last years of his life mostly with Amal, with whom he lived and slept in the top portion of the compound.
Amal was shot in the leg during the U.S. operation, and her brother believes her physical condition may be worsening.?

"I've seen them eight times, each visit for an hour, maybe an hour and a half," he said. "But the last visit was two and a half months ago."??

Al-Sadah said the last time he saw his sister, she had lost the use of her injured leg. He is concerned authorities are deliberately keeping him from visiting to hide her deteriorating health.

Long list of charges
For al-Sadah, the process has been a long and drawn out one. He said that after questioning by the special government commission investigating bin Laden's presence here, Amal?s return to Yemen seemed imminent.

But he said that with each step forward has come with two steps back. In the latest twist to the widows' story, Pakistan recently announced that all three women are being charged with illegally entering and staying in Pakistan and would continue to be confined to a house in Islamabad.

Al-Sadah, who has retained a lawyer to help secure his sister's freedom, says he's written to Pakistan's chief justice for permission for his sister, nieces and nephews to return with him to Yemen.

"Everyone knows that women and children ? they're innocent," he said. "[Bin Laden] made them busy with the kids, taking care of the kids' needs. They were not included, none of them were included, in any of his agendas."

But the Pakistani government says it has its reasons for holding the women.

?The widows are facing charges of illegal entry, harboring an offender, impersonation and abetment,? said a senior official in Pakistan?s Ministry of the Interior, explaining the charges against Amal and the other widows. He spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case. ?The punishments carry different kinds of sentences, so it is now up to courts proceedings. How much time it will take, no one can say.?

Another Pakistani intelligence official, who also spoke on the condition of anonymity, explained another reason why the women?s case may be moving so slowly. ?Since the Saudi and Yemeni governments have not made up their minds to take them back, the legal process could take a long time to keep them away from public scene.?

However, Aamir Khalil, the lawyer for Al-Sadah working on Amal?s case, of course sees things differently. ?The case was filed after 10 months which is illegal; already we have filed a petition to quash the case and acquittal.?
?
He added that Islamabad?s High Court has directed the Director General of Pakistan?s ISI, Pakistan?s premiere intelligence agency, and the Ministries of Interior and Defense to arrange a meeting between Amal and her brother as soon as possible.?

?Next time?
For now, al-Sadah said all he can do is try to provide some sense of hope for his nieces and nephews, most of whom can only remember life inside the compound walls in which their father was killed.

Al-Sadah said he had taken them toys when he was allowed to see them ? soccer balls, balloons, and books ? and that at the end of each visit, the children would beg him not to go.

"I always lied to them, whenever they asked me to stay," he said. "I would lie and say, 'Next time we'll go to the park,' 'Next time we'll go outside.' I keep telling them they're going to come back home soon."

NBC News' Fakhar Rehman contributed to this report.

Pest Control - Spring Pest Control: Predictions for Pest Activity

Oregon pest control experts can attest to the difficulty of predicting pest control patterns judging from the weather. There are just too many variables (including the most variable element of all, weather) to say for sure how Oregon's dry, warm 2011/2012 winter will affect pest populations. Still, we can speculate, can't we? In this article we geek out as Portland pest control experts, thinking about how different weather patterns could influence the need for Oregon Pest control. Assuming our weather stays dry and warm, here are the major factors influencing pest numbers.

Moisture Levels and Insect Food Stores

Dry weather limits the amount of food sources available for pests. Sure, many noxious pests sample from humans' pantries, trashcans, and firewood pile - but they usually also depend on local seeds, grasses, and weeds for food. Less rain means that there are fewer plants available for pests to munch on. Still, to make sure your pantry stays entirely pest-free, Portland pest specialists recommend thoroughly cleaning out your cabinets this spring. Any spare crumbs, open food containers, or sticky spill residues will attract pests.

Insect Overwintering Strategies & Weather Patterns

The other major factor influencing pest populations is soil temperature and moisture levels. Because insects are cold-blooded, they can't make their own body heat. So instead of moving around all winter like we do, most insects have developed overwintering strategies. Some, like the Monarch butterfly, migrate to warmer locations as temperatures drop. Others dig into the earth and enter a low-energy state similar to hibernation. Still others lay their eggs underground in the fall; the eggs hatch when springtime temperatures are warm enough to sustain life. Similarly, overwintering insects exit their low energy \"diapause\" state when it's warm enough to heat their blood.

Warmer than usual spring temperatures signals insects that it's time to become active. Given our recent dry, warm weather here in Oregon. Pest control experts expect insects to appear earlier than normal; eggs will hatch sooner, and \"hibernating\" insects will regain activity sooner.

Pest Species Affected By Warm, Dry Weather Patterns

Ants, bees, and wasps overwinter as adults, so look for them earlier this year, assuming our dry, warm weather continues. Mild temperatures allow more of these insects to survive the winter, so we might be in for an uptick in pest control problems.

A similar phenomenon could be seen with rodents. Cold winter temperatures kill off many mice and rats; therefore, Oregon pest control organizations suspect we could see more rodents than usual this spring.

In the end, spring weather will establish much of the upcoming Portland pest control experience. Should March be wet and cold, as in 2011, any insects that have emerged earlier than usual could die, and rodent breeding rates will also decline.

Fortunately, you can defend your home against any pest patterns that arise by practicing a few good pest control habits: 1) Prevent plants from growing near your home's exterior. 2) Maintain a tidy home to decrease pest food stores. 3) Seal any cracks in the exterior of your home. These and other proactive Portland pest control methods will work to naturally reduce the number of pests that can survive in your home. If you do happen to discover a pest infestation, don't delay - call your Oregon pest control experts as soon as possible. A proactive approach is best.

What Is Bio Oil? ? Beauty, Health and Fitness

Bio Oil is a revolutionary new product formulated to help reduce the appearance of stretch marks, scars and uneven skin tones as well as having a great effect on dehydrated and aging skin. It was launched in 2002 and has now won over 80 awards in 11 countries for its skin care results.

The main ingredients are a carefully selected blend of vitamins and oils extracted from plants that are already known for their healing properties. The ?secret? ingredient that makes Bio Oil a superior product is PurCellin oil. This helps the skin to easily absorb all of the goodness from the plant oils and vitamins, and is the reason why Bio Oil has a non-greasy texture.

The parent company is part of the ?Beauty Without Cruelty? organisation which has consistently demonstrated that all of their products are safely tested without the use of animals. They also test all of their products vigorously to ensure that daily exposure to each ingredient is safe for everyone, without side effects, and is also safe to be used by pregnant women. You must remember however, that cosmetics react differently on different skins so always test on a small area first to check for any allergic reactions.

There are many ingredients that can be found in the oil, all of which can be found on the product?s website, but just to give you an idea I have listed a few.

Bio Oil consists of four essential oils: Lavender, Chamomile, Calendula and Rosemary oil, all of which have their own healing properties and are gentle on the skin. The oil has its own unique aroma. This comes from a combination of absolutes that when mixed together has the smell of roses.

The oil contains a mixture of two important vitamins; Vitamin A, known for its ability to help cell re-growth, and Vitamin E, which is known for its anti-oxidants. The base oil is a mixture of many oils but the main one is liquid paraffin. The use of this has caused controversy over a number of years, with concerns that it shouldn?t be used on the skin. But, after many tests, it has been shown to be perfectly safe. Liquid paraffin is used as it helps to reduce the evaporation of other liquids during the heating process used when making the oil. Finally, to give the oil its distinct colour they add two colours, rose and orange. All of these ingredients are monitored individually for a period of 5 years checking for microbiological contamination.

Before launching, Bio Oil was tested on a wide selection of different people of different ages and ethnicity. The oil was also used on a number of different problem areas to check its results. The tests required the oil to be applied twice daily for a period of 8 weeks. After 2 weeks, a slight change was observed for around 95% of participants with no other treatments being used. A noticeable difference was observed at the end of the 8 week trial.

As with all cosmetic products they may not work for you just because they worked for someone else. The effectiveness of any cosmetic product depends on the type of skin it is being applied to and how the skin reacts to it. I advise that if you have any doubts that check with your doctor or dermatologist before using the oil.
