Microsoft: 24 Million Kinect Sensors Sold Worldwide

Home / News / Microsoft: 24 Million Kinect Sensors Sold Worldwide

Microsoft has announced that their motion-sensing peripheral, Kinect, has managed to sell more than 24 million units worldwide since it launched back in 2010.

Originally unveiled at E3 2009 as Project Natal, the general gaming populous has always been quite skeptical about Kinect. Microsoft frequently promised core gaming experiences, but while they never really materialised in a positive form (Fable: The Journey/Star Wars Kinect), it hasn't dampened the sales of the peripheral at all.

Alongside the announcement, Microsoft also revealed that 76 million Xbox 360 consoles had been sold worldwide. This stat means that there's been a Kinect sensor sold for every Xbox 360's on the market.

In 2012, Microsoft also released the peripheral for the PC, allowing developers to come up with lots of creative uses for the device. There are numerous instances where people have modded it to suit their needs in the world of gaming and beyond.
