LeBron James is a favorite leadership model for Ohio State coach Urban Meyer: With video

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? When Urban Meyer talks about leadership with his team, and he said that's 80 percent of what will determine how this season goes, he cites examples in sports for his players to follow.

One of his favorite players to point out? LeBron James.

?Michael Jordan is I think the greatest of all time,? Meyer said Thursday in Chicago at Big Ten media days. ?Michael Jordan's focus I would argue was the greatest of all-time. There was very little that could ever disrupt his train of thought. We just had something disrupt our team's train of thought. We just turned right, and you can't turn right. Now how do you get it back straight? I think that is so overlooked in the big picture.?

Meyer said getting the team back on track will be his job, along with strength coach Mickey Marotti and leaders like Jack Mewhort, Christian Bryant and Braxton Miller. And James, no stranger to criticism and distraction, can teach them all something.

?When I see LeBron James, I hear that criticism, I do know LeBron, not very well, but what are we talking about? You are talking about the perfect opportunity to get turned right or turned left. But he's one of the most driven human beings I've ever seen. He won't allow his team to. And I love using those examples we have and I love showing them, because our guys look up to them and there are other great players that don't have it. It doesn't mean they aren't good people, but they don't have that focus.

?During the Finals it was LeBron this and LeBron that. What are they talking about? Give me all kinds of LeBrons. Do you see the way he articulates, the way he treats people, the way he focuses? Those leadership meetings, those videos, his face is plastered all over. First, our guys admire him and the head coach really admires him and he's a great role model. To me, he and Jordan are the two that just separate.?

MoDaCo.SWITCH for HTC One hits beta: Dual boot HTC Sense, Google Edition ROMs

The HTC One is available with two different software experiences. Most models of the smartphone ship with HTC?s version of Android which features a custom skin called Sense. Or you can buy a model from the Google Play Store which comes without Sense, and instead offers a pretty much stock Android user experience.

If you root your device and unlock the bootloader, it?s possible to install a Google Edition ROM on a Sense phone, or vice versa. But now you can also get the best of both worlds: Developer Paul O?Brien has released a beta version of his MoDaCo.SWITCH software which lets you dual boot both operating systems on the same device.

MoDaCo.SWITCH for HTC One

SWITCH lets you hit a button to reboot your device into the other user interface. That?s pretty cool. But what?s even more impressive is that your apps and data will be the same no matter which version of Android you?re using.

If you install an app in the Google Edition environment, the same app will be accessible when you boot into Sense. Data stays in sync as well.

That?s because you?re basically running two different Android environments, but your apps and data are stored in the same location, which makes them accessible in either environment.

While there are folks who prefer Google?s stock Android experience to HTC Sense, there are a few reasons you might occasionally want to boot into Sense. For instance, the Sense camera has more options and a better user interface. And I suppose there might be someone who thinks the BlinkFeed social news widget is a good idea.

O?Brien also plans to offer a custom ROM eventually which will combine some of the best features of the Sense and Google Edition experiences so you don?t have to reboot your phone to use the apps or services you want.

There?s also a crowd-funding campaign underway to raise enough money to pay for test devices so O?Brien can bring SWITCH software to the Samsung Galaxy S4 as well.

For now, you can download a public beta of MoDaCo.SWITCH for the HTC One at the MoDaCo forum.

Samsung emphasizes components as smartphones peak

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) ? Samsung plans to plow a record pile of cash into its semiconductor and display panel businesses, hoping to reduce reliance on sales of high-end Galaxy smartphones that are poised to peak after two years of blistering growth.

Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest smartphone maker, reported record profit for a sixth straight quarter on Friday. But the result still disappointed investors who expected Samsung to book even higher earnings after the Galaxy S4, its latest iteration of the flagship smartphone, was launched in April. The handset scored 10 million sales in the month after its launch.

Samsung's division that makes and sells handsets, smartphones and tablet computers has been the motive force behind the South Korea company's run of bumper profits, with Galaxy smartphone shipments jumping every quarter. In the three months ended June 30, the division contributed two-thirds of the company's entire operating profit.

Samsung, which does not disclose its smartphone sales figures, is estimated by research firm IDC to have shipped 72.4 million smartphones in the April-June quarter, compared with Apple's 31.2 million iPhone sales. Samsung's second quarter smartphone sales were double what it sold in the final quarter of 2011, an indication of how fast the company expanded its business and outpaced rivals.

But investors who once cheered the explosive sales growth now fret that consumer appetite for top-of-the-range smartphones is close to being sated. Cutting-edge features have lost some of their luster as there is now a wide choice of new devices with equivalently fast processors, powerful cameras and crisp roomy displays.

Emerging markets remain a source of growth but the middle classes in such countries flock to cheaper smartphones that are less profitable for manufacturers such as Samsung and Apple Inc. They also face additional competition from Chinese companies that specialize in affordable handsets.

Samsung's share price has dropped 14 percent since January, cutting $30 billion from its market value. Robert Yi, senior vice president of investor relations at Samsung, blamed global economic conditions that prompted foreign investors to pull funds from Asian financial markets including South Korea.

But many analysts said weaker-than-expected sales and profit from Galaxy smartphones is the key factor behind the tumbling share price. Analysts including those at JP Morgan Chase cut their sales forecasts for the Galaxy S4 by more than 20 percent in June, predicting shipments would weaken after the first quarter it was on sale.

Samsung said it expected a higher profit contribution from its components businesses in the future.

It plans record-high capital expenditure this year, which will help ramp up production of its mainstay memory chips and strengthen its expansion in the mobile processor market. Out of 24 trillion won ($21.6 billion) of annual capital spending, it allocated 13 trillion won to the semiconductor business and 6.5 trillion won to its display panel business.

In the latest quarter, Samsung's display panel business posted a higher profit over a year earlier thanks to demand for advanced displays called OLED, primarily used in Galaxy smartphones. Even as PC shipments fell in the spring quarter, demand for tablet PCs and data servers propped up prices of memory chips accounting for larger semiconductor profit.

In smartphones, Samsung is also facing a similar challenge to Apple in that consumers are increasingly buying its older less expensive models rather than the latest version.

IDC said discounted prices of the Galaxy S III, a predecessor of the S4, renewed consumer interest during the second quarter and contributed to Samsung's shipment growth. Yet it also likely dragged on earnings from handsets.

Samsung's mobile business posted a lower profit in the three months ending June compared with the previous quarter because of higher marketing costs after the S4 launch. It was first time in a year that the mobile division did not report an increase in profit from the previous quarter.

Samsung said the average handset price will moderately decline in coming quarters as the proportion of mid-tier smartphone sales increase. It also released variations of the Galaxy series to offer cheaper handsets and fend off competition from Chinese rivals.

Many analysts also expect Samsung to mark down the Galaxy S4's price in the fall and winter quarters as rivals, including Apple, will release new models.

Samsung's April-June net profit jumped 50 percent over a year earlier to 7.77 trillion won ($6.9 billion), below the market forecast of 7.96 trillion won, according to a survey of analysts by FactSet, a financial data provider.

Operating profit was also at a record high of 9.53 trillion won, up 48 percent. Sales rose 21 percent to 57.46 trillion won.

Improving the management of people with a family history of breast cancer in primary care: before and after study of audit-based education

??Improving the management of people with a family history of breast cancer in primary care: before and after study of audit-based education

In England, guidance from National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) states women with a family history of breast cancer presenting to primary care should be reassured or referred. We reviewed the evidence for interventions that might be applied in primary care and conducted an audit of whether low risk women are correctly advised and flagged.

Methods: We conducted a literature review to identify modifiable risk factors. We extracted routinely collected data from the computerised medical record systems of 6 general practices (population approximately 30,000); of the variables identified in the guidance.

We implemented a quality improvement (QI) intervention called audit-based education (ABE) comparing participant practices with guidelines and each other before and after; we report odds ratios (OR) of any change in data recording.

Results: The review revealed evidence for advising on: diet, weight control, physical exercise, and alcohol. The proportion of patients with recordings of family history of: disease, neoplasms, and breast cancer were: 39.3%, 5.1% and 1.3% respectively.

There was no significant change in the recording of family history of disease or cancer; OR 1.02 (95% CI 0.98-1.06); and 1.08 (95% CI 0.99-1.17) respectively. Recording of alcohol consumption and smoking both increased significantly; OR 1.36 (95% CI 1.30-1.43); and 1.42 (95% CI 1.27-1.60) respectively.

Recording lifestyle advice fell; OR 0.84 (95% CI 0.81-0.88).

Conclusions: The study informs about current data recording and willingness to engage in ABE. Recording of risk factors improved after the intervention.

Further QI is needed to achieve adherence to current guidance.

Miraculously, church get certificate of occupancy

BRIDGEPORT -- Just hours after city officials conceded that the Rev. Kenneth Moales Jr. had been operating his East End cathedral without a certificate of occupancy for the past four years, all the inspections and paperwork were completed --and he was given a temporary one.

"I told you before we would be fine and we are fine," Moales said Tuesday evening.

Moales also is chairman of the city's Board of Education.

Shortly before noon Tuesday, Moales, who still did not have the CO, vowed he would keep his Cathedral of the Holy Spirit open on Union Avenue even though a state building official said it was illegal.

"Within the past 24 to 48 hours, the appropriate paperwork was provided by the property owner to our building official, inspections were conducted and a temporary CO was issued for the Prayer Tabernacle building on Union Avenue," said Elaine Ficarra, spokeswoman for Mayor Bill Finch. She would not elaborate.

In the meantime, City Building Official Peter Paajanen on Tuesday got a talking to from Deputy State Building Inspector Daniel Tierney regarding Paajanen's responsibilities in the matter and the fact that the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit has been holding services and school since 2009 without the CO.

"Mr. Tierney has spoken to Mr. Paajanen and given him some advice on how it should have been handled and we hope and expect the local official will do what is necessary to ensure public safety," said Jeffrey Beckham, the spokesman for the state building inspector.

Beckham said under state law the state building inspector can step in and take over from a city building inspector who is not doing his job.

"But we have no information that is the case here," he said.

Under state law, buildings cannot be used or occupied without a certificate of occupancy which can only be issued after it is determined by the local building official that the building is safe.

The city Fire Marshal has provided no information that the Union Avenue cathedral has been inspected.

Despite the fact that Mayor Bill Finch has acknowledged attending several functions at the cathedral and video of services there can be viewed on YouTube, Paajanen said he did not know the cathedral remained open.

"Our Building department is aware of this issue and is awaiting final documentation from the architect, designer and construction firm, and from the fire marshal and zoning office prior to issuing a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) for Prayer Tabernacle," Ficarra said Monday night.

Moales is chairman of the city's school board and served as Finch's campaign treasurer.

His church recently applied to the state Department of Health for a license to operate a preschool in the cathedral building.

The application is pending.
